ObjectiveTo investigate the therapeutic effect of guided tissue regeneration (GTR) combined with orthodontics in the treatment of patients with periodontitis. MethodsA total of 48 patients with periodontitis who received surgical treatment were selected, and they were randomly divided into group A (n=24, 36 teeth) and group B (n=24, 37 teeth). Patients in group A were treated with GTR combined with orthodontics, and group B was treated with simple GTR. The changes of plaque index (PLI), gingival index (GI), sulcus bleeding index (SBI), clinical attachment loss (CAL), probing depth (PD), teeth mobility and occlusion time (OT) before and 12 months after operation, as well as the clinical efficacy and complications 12 months after operation were observed and recorded in both groups. ResultsTwelve months after operation, PLI, GI, SBI, CAL and PD of teeth and teeth mobility were significantly lower than those before operation in both groups, and the above indexes in group A were significantly lower than those in group B (all P＜0.05); the OT was significantly prolonged than that before operation in both groups, which was significantly longer in group A than in group B (all P＜0.05). Twelve months after operation, the therapeutic effect of group A was significantly superior to that of group B (P＜0.05), but there was no statistically significant difference in the total effective rate between the two groups (P＞0.05). There were no statistically significant differences in the incidence of complications of gingival tissue edema, incision dehiscence and root sensitivity between the two groups 12 months after operation (all P＞0.05). ConclusionThe effect of GTR combined with orthodontics in the treatment of periodontitis is prominent, which can significantly improve the periodontal condition of patients.
