ObjectiveTo study the clinical effects of needle-threading technique assisted by small incision oval forceps on acute Achilles tendon rupture. MethodsSeventy patients with acute Achilles tendon rupture were selected as research subjects, and were divided into study group and control group according to different treatment regimens, with 35 cases in each group. The study group used needle-threading technique for treatment assisted by small incision oval forceps, whereas the control group applied conventional Krackow suture method to treatment. Operation-related indexes, rate of Achilles tendon re-rupture, and incidence of complications were compared between the two groups. After 6 months of follow-up, the recovery of Achilles tendon function was compared between the two groups. ResultsCompared to the control group, the study group yielded less intraoperative blood loss, shorter incision length and hospital stay, lower incidence rates of complications, and superior six-month follow-up Arner-Lindholm function scores (all P<0.05). There were no statistically significant differences in operation duration or rate of Achilles tendon re-rupture between the two groups (all P>0.05). ConclusionFor patients with acute Achilles tendon rupture, needle-threading technique assisted by small incision oval forceps has small incisions and can significantly reduce intraoperative blood loss, shorten hospital stay, decrease incidence rates of complications, and it is conducive to promoting the recovery of Achilles tendon function.
