Sharps injuries are common occupational hazards in medical work. The injury from contaminated sharp instruments is an important way that causes hospital workers to be infected with bloodborne diseases. Bloodborne diseases due to sharps injuries can make affected individuals suffered from considerable physical and mental pain and pressure, and also induce adverse social impact and social harm. In order to reduce the incidence of sharps injuries, it is important to emphasis on occupational protection for hospital workers, reinforce the education and training about related knowledge, regulate the manipulation procedure, establish rules, raise the awareness of protection and improve the ability of protection from sharps injuries in hospital workers. Our study focused on reviewing the current situation and risk factors of sharps injuries, and research progress of protection for hospital workers.
